CFA Society Boston's Financial Literacy Event Kicks Off 2017-2018 Year

BOSTON – September 13, 2017 – CFA Society Boston’s Financial Literacy Initiative – now in its fourth year – will hold its first 2017-2018 presentation tonight at Morrill Memorial Library in Norwood, MA. CFA Society Boston volunteers Firoza Panthaki, CFA, and Robert Milas, CFA, will give a Basics of Investing presentation to participants who attend the free event.

According to Co-Chair Alice Avanian, CFA, “This initiative is a community outreach program designed to consolidate valuable financial literacy content and make it widely available as a resource to the general investing public.” Will Krause, CFA, Co-Chair added, “CFA Society Boston strikes alliances with non-profit groups, leveraging their reach to access a wide variety of audiences, from late high school onward.”

Since its inception in 2014, the initiative has grown year-over-year by engaging members, building alliances, and touching lives. The initiative’s mission is “To close the financial literacy gap by imparting financial knowledge without conflicts of interest, thereby improving the lives of the current and future investing public, the credibility of our industry and ultimately, the stability of our economy.”

On Thursday, September 21, the initiative will host a Kickoff Networking Reception for 50 CFA Society Boston member volunteers who are interested in contributing to the initiative. Attendees will interact with Financial Literacy Alliance Leaders, each of whom is responsible for building relationships with established non-profit alliances such as:
  • Boston Private Industry Council (PIC)
  • Year Up
  • Invest In Girls
  • New Sector Alliance
  • METCO Parents Council
  • City Mission of Boston
