Direct Indexing - Existential Threat to ETF's & Mutual Funds or Just Another Niche Technology Platform?

Description
Direct indexing is a more tax-efficient way to invest in an index or strategy than ETF’s or mutual funds. By giving investors direct ownership of the individual underlying securities, it enables systematic tax-loss harvesting which can measurably improve returns, especially in volatile periods.

It may become a truly disruptive threat to pooled funds, however, because it gives investors and advisors a cost-effective way to finely customize portfolios beyond a simple index. Think stock-specific ESG screenings or factor tilts implemented down to the individual security level—a true personalized index portfolio.

Major DI company acquisitions by Black Rock, Morgan Stanley, and JP Morgan in recent months suggest Direct Indexing may going mainstream as an advisor solution and the threat becoming more real.

Join us for a panel discussion of Direct Indexing and its potential impact on the financial services industry, featuring insight from McKinsey Consulting, O’Shaughnessy Asset Management, and Parametric Portfolio Associates.
