China After the Plenum: Entering a Dangerous Deleveraging Phase

China's growth has slowed down dramatically since the financial crisis. On our estimates, it averaged just 4% qoq ar in the five quarters to Q2 2017. Throwing money at the economy without rebalancing and cleaning past excesses has led to a dramatic increase in debt and spawned speculation and bubbles. This talk will address how China's economy is likely to develop after the all-important party congress in October. Can Beijing deal with China's excessive leverage and overcapacity successfully? Can the leadership rebalance China's growth and what does this entail for global growth and markets? What does Xi Jinping's China Dream mean and can he deliver it?
