The New Investment Paradigm: Active and Passive Active Managers have struggled in the last few years, and asset flows have gone to low cost passive funds and ETF’s. As managed accounts and UMA platforms grow, more market share and decision control is moving to the packager. New digital advice providers are pivoting how clients perceive value, frequently focused on low cost as a key part of “Value”.

So how does an active manager compete? Is there as much pressure on active management in fixed income and international equities as we’ve seen in US Equities? Should the asset allocator move entirely to passive to manage “all in” cost, or is there still shelf space in a client portfolio for active managers? And how does the digital advisor decide asset mix? Have we pivoted to active management coming from allocation rather than security selection?

We will explore these paradigm shifts for the future of active and passive management in this one day event, and consider the consequences for allocators, advisors, and investment managers.

Conference will feature the following panels and presentations:
  • The Asset Allocation Decision
  • The Case for Active
  • The Case for Passive
  • The Value Proposition of Smart Beta
  • The Importance of Manager Selection in Active Management
